Autograph Signed Note, signed "Charles Pettit", stating that he holds money received for a friend. 6.75" x 4.75" Fine Condition.
In full, “Philadelphia 14 June 1799, Dear Sir, I have this day rec’d from Mr. S. Davison by the hands of the Hon. Tho. Smith on his return from the Western Circuit, One hundred fifty Seven Dollars for you; for which I gave a Recpt. accordingly. The money awaits your call, or order. My respectful regards attend your family, you mutual friends. Yours with Esteem, Chas Pettit.”
Charles Pettit (1736-1806) American lawyer and a New Jersey and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania merchant. He served as a delegate for Pennsylvania to the Confederation Congress from 1785 to 1787; Assistant Quartermaster General of the Continental Army.
