Modernizing New York's Landscape: A nostalgic look at New York in the late 1930's.
Scarce documentary series of four vintage Gelatin Silver Print Photographs of New York's elevated rail system. Originally commissioned by Norvin Green, the New York financier and business man to document the demolition of the elevated railway. A complete collection of this project is housed at the New York Historical Society. Attributed to H.F. Dutcher, a commercial photographer hired by Green, who worked on the project between 1939 and 1941. The scrap metal from the Elevated train was sold to Japan where it was used to create weapons used in WWII.
