Typed Letter Signed, “Saturday [no year] / Dear Lloyd: I ran into Flynn the other day and asked him about the Solicitor General business. I gathered that the jig is up. He indicated that Tom Clark or Clarke) is not very bright and that he doesn’t want anybody around that is brighter than he is. That seemed to be the diagnosis. I hadn’t heard anything about this thing in month, but was curious. F. says it came close / though / As ever, Ross “R”.”
Typed on The New Yorker No. 25 West 45th Street, Editorial Offices letterhead. Ross signs with only an “R” in blue pencil [commonly used by editors.] Two folds and two holes at top. Type dark. Excellent.
