Thomas W. Streeter's copy, with his book label and pencil notations. The very rare first edition of this work, describing the rise of the express business, the railroads in operation before the boom in express companies, and an account of the pioneering express firm of William F. Harnden in New York and Boston. The second edition of the same year was actually a greatly expanded sequel to the present pamphlet, containing much material concerning western express companies, including Wells Fargo, and such other major companies as American Express.
