Ogdensburgh: Stillman Foote, Printer. 1855. Original printed wrappers [headed ‘The Star Joint Stock Fire & Navigation Insurance Co., Ogdensburgh, N.Y.’; and listing its directors and officers], stitched. 49pp, Minor wear, Very Good.
This New York City Company, the first such to be organized under New York’s “new Law”, began operations in 1853 with a capital stock of $150,000. These instructions to its agents are detailed, great—that of binding a corporation, on your own judgment, and we trust your responsibility will be fully appreciated.” The item is evidently unrecorded. OCLC located two copies of a similarly-titled item from Cincinnati in 1855 [‘Instructions of the Star Insurance Company to their Agents’], but not this one.
FIRST EDITION. Not in Sabin, Eberstadt, Decker. Not located on OCLC.
