Beverly Holcombe Robertson (1827 –1910) was a cavalry officer in the United States Army on the Western frontier and a Confederate States general during the American Civil War. Robertson served in the Valley Campaign; was promoted to brigadier general on June 9, 1862. He fought at the Second Battle of Bull Run in August 1862, and the early part of the Maryland Campaign in September 1862. During the Gettysburg Campaign, he commanded a brigade of two North Carolina cavalry regiments primarily assigned to scout for Robert E. Lee. He helped defend Charleston from enemy attack. Robertson served in the Carolinas Campaign and surrendered with Gen. Joseph E. Johnston.
Gustavus Adolphus De Russy (1818 - 1891) was a US Army officer, who became a general during the American Civil War. By the start of the Civil War, De Russy was serving in the 4th US Artillery and commanded the artillery reserve of III Corps in the Peninsula Campaign and the Seven Days Battles, receiving promotions to major and lieutenant colonel. He was promoted to colonel in March 1863 and again to brigadier general of volunteers in May of the same year, and commanded the southern defenses of Washington D. C. until the end of the war.
