"Scarce Broadside "AN ACT / To amend and act, entitles, "An act to restrain disorderly houses and person, and for the other purposes, signed in type by "John P. Erwin" as Mayor, and "E. Dibrell" as recorder. 1 pg, folio [ca. 10.75" x 9.5"], Nashville, Tennessee, August 5, 1835.
An amendment in three sections, restricting the less than virtuous pursuits enjoyed by some portions of the citizenry, in part:
Be it enacted by the Mayor and Alderman of the Corporation of Nashville, That ... no person shall be allowed to keep his or her Grocery, Dram Shop, Confectionary, or other place of ordinary business, open on Sunday, nor to sell any spirituous liquors on said day, or to to deal out the same by gift of otherwise from such Grocery Shop, &c.; except Tavern Keepers, who are hereby permitted to furnish liquors in the way of refreshment to actual guest, or person who put up with them as Tavern Keepers, but not to sell or dispose of liquors on said day to other persons; except also, apothecaries, who are allowed to sell necessary articles of medicine , in cases of actual sickness but not to keep open house..."
Tipped at head to a mat. Age toning, fold wear, with vertical separation affecting several lines of text and other minor defect, otherwise in good condition.
