Typed Letter signed, “Bob” to The Honorable Luther H. Hodges of North Carolina. In part: “Dear Luther: Many thanks for bringing Mr. Bentley’s letter to my attention…” On United States Senate letterhead; dated September 6, 1966. Although the typed signature is “Robert F. Kennedy” senator Kennedy crossed off the Robert to hand write in “Bob” in show of informality towards Hodges. Fine.

Robert Francis "Bobby" Kennedy (1925 –1968), commonly known by his initials RFK, was an American politician from Massachusetts. He served as a senator for New York from 1965 until his assassination  in 1968. He was previously the 64th U.S. Attorney General from 1961 to 1964, serving under his older brother, President John F. Kennedy and his successor, President Lyndon B. Johnson.  An icon of modern American liberalism and member of the Democratic Party, Kennedy ran for the Democratic presidential nomination in the 1968 election.

Luther Hartwell Hodges (1898 – 1974) was an American politician, who served as the 64th Governor of the state of North Carolina  from 1954 to 1961 and as United States Secretary of Commerce  from 1961 to 1965.
