Grace Coolidge, First Lady of the 30th President Calvin Coolidge [1879 - 1957].
Typewritten Letter signed "Grace Coolidge", 2 pp, 8vo, on address-imprinted stationery, Northampton, MA; December 6, 1940.
She writes to a Mr. Buxton, who has expressed interest in the Coolidge homestead in Plymouth Notch, VT. She has not sold it because "it was father Coolidge's wish that she stay there during her lifetime. It is home to her...She is, as you know, peculiar and she could not get along with anybody except the family...John [Coolidge, her son' likes to go up there and he would be reluctant to make any changes..." She adds, with World War II already raging in Europe, that, "In view of the uncertainty which we all feel in this troubled world, the effort that we are making to everything possible for the oppress people abroad and our anxiety for the welfare of our own country, it seems to me that this is not the time to try to do anything about Plymouth..."
