Mary Lord Harrison, Second wife and First Lady to 23rd President Benjamin Harrison. [1858 - 1948].
The niece of Harrison's first wife, Caroline, Mary had been widowed six weeks after her marriage to Walter Dimmick; she lived for a time with the Harrison's at the White House, often taking over hostess duties while her aunt was ill.
Autograph Letter Signed "Mary Lord Harrison," 3.25", 8vo, on imprinted stationery of The White Sulphur Springs in West Virginia, July 16, {1913]. Writes to "Dear Ellsworth," Mrs. Harrison admits that she planned to write, but "...my intentions were better on this point than my actions. Such a lot of things to attend to, then the hot weather. We had beautiful four days motor trip in Kentucky and then came to this most lovely place last week. We have a tiny little cottage and are most comfortable and love it here. we have cousins who have a beautiful place several miles away and are there constantly. Elizabeth [Harrison, her daughter] is having a lot of gaiety, and yet not too much. We hope to be here through August and then go to New York and last of September Elizabeth goes to school. am Glad you are feeling much better. Indiana certainly has not a bracing climate. Mrs. Major Parker is here and sends her love. I wonder if you are going to England?..."
Age-toned, otherwise in very good condition.
