The Milwaukee Light Guard Quickstep by H. N. Hempsted. Milwaukee, Wisconsin, 1866. Folio; very good some light tearing on one page. 4 pp.

The Milwaukee Light Guard was a volunteer militia unit formed in 1857 in response to the Leahy Riot that occurred eariler in the decade when an excommunicated priest fomented a battle within the city between Catholics and Protestants. With the onset of the Civil War, the unit was merged into the 1st Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry and guarded river crossings along the upper Potomac River. The cover illustration shows two Union pickets on guard duty with two officers consulting a map in the background.
