John Adams Dix (1798 –1879) was Secretary of the Treasury, Governor of New York and Union major general during the Civil War.
The Mississippi and Missouri Railroad was the first railroad in Iowa, chartered in 1853 to connect Davenport on the Mississippi River and Council Bluffs on the Missouri River and played an important role in the construction of the transcontinental railroad.
