[POLITICAL CARTOON] JUDGE Magazine Cover, 1908
Original; JUDGE. Depiction of "POST NO BILLS!"
The image depicts President Theodore Roosevelt’s intent on using the Sherman Antitrust Act and breaking up the trusts of the 1900’s when he became the mythologized “trust-buster”. More to the truth Roosevelt was more in favor of regulating the trusts. Roosevelt viewed big business as a necessary part of the American economy and sought only to prosecute the "bad trusts" that restrained trade and charged unfair prices. He brought 44 antitrust suits, breaking up the Northern States Company the largest railroad monopoly; and regulating Standard Oil, largest oil, and refinery company railroad monopoly; and regulating Standard Oil the largest oil and refinery company.
